I have just celebrated my 66 birthday and I am realizing how much I have still to learn about myself. I have been struggling recently with how I allow my thoughts to hijack my wellbeing and how powerless I have been to take charge of them. There are so many suggestions out there about what we can do to regain our equilibrium, all seem helpful but few get the job done for me. I was reintroducted to the work of Byron Katie recently and I am finding her process very helpful. If you check her out on YouTube, you will see her at work. I recommend her book, “Loving What Is” as it provides a great invitation to engage what she calls the “WORK.” Her process is simple but it is personally challenging when you open yourself up to her four basic questions which can change your life:
1. Is it true? (that is, is this thought which I firmly believe, is it true?)
2. Can you absolutely know that it’ true? (that is, can I absolutely know that this thought is true without a shadow of a doubt?)
3. How do you react when you believe that thought? (that is, what are the feelings that are engendered in you?)
4. Who would you be without that thought?
I would love to hear from you and what you think of the WORK.
